Is eBay selling really THAT easy?

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

No, I think not. If you are a small store owner like me, you’ll know that there’s always some of your inventory that just won’t move! You relist it constantly each month to no avail. In the end you have to give up because the listing fees are costing more than you can ever hope to get for your item. Every month, thousands of new sellers decide to try eBay selling, full of dreams of giving up their job and living solely from their eBay sales. Sadly, this is very, VERY unlikely to happen for them. Unless you are selling something which is in high demand, and for which you are one of a very few suppliers, you will need more than just eBay to achieve this. However, eBay is a great way to start out with your business plans, especially for those with little or no experience of internet marketing.

An eBay store can help you to build your business whether you plan to sell solely on the internet, or run a “real-world” operation. You can brand your eBay store, use the same branding on your own website and, by combining the two selling methods, you can increase your profits. eBay is a vast marketplace with millions of transactions every week. It makes great sense therefore to harness the power of eBay to increase your online customer base.

Although you may sell an item to someone on eBay, this customer is regarded by eBay as being one of their customers, and not yours. You can change this with the use of eBay’s Store enhancement features, such as providing your buyers with a newsletter, thereby allowing you to stay in touch with them, giving them exclusive special offers and persuading them to visit your website to buy from you directly. You can also, of course, promote your own website to them, so long as you don’t place a direct link to it from any of your listings. This is a breach of eBay policy. If you can persuade your buyers to return to you time and again, then you’re on a winner.

Branding your eBay Store is an easy undertaking. A logo is a great way to start. For a very small investment you can purchase a logo, customized with your store’s name, and then either use a matching template, or choose colors from the logo to integrate your listings with your store and enhance the overall appeal of your listings.

These methods, while so simple, are a very effective way of expanding your reach beyond eBay and growing your business to it’s full potential.

Well, I checked on my email last night and discovered it had happened.  Our first !  I was so delighted that someone had gone to the trouble of signing up that I ran out of the room, into the kitchen and told my husband.  He just couldn’t see what the fuss was about.  I wanted to shake him for being so dense.  I felt as if my long-lost sister had just turned up out of the blue.

It was a strange feeling, and generated a sense of excitement (in me at least) and has spurred me on to complete the site as soon as possible.  I have all sorts of plans for what will be on offer here for , and some of it is very new and .  The first to know will be our lovely new subscriber!  Bless her!

It’s starting to take shape!

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

Having worked very hard with the for the site, I think it is beginning to look more like I had hoped.  I still haven’t got my rather cool header graphic to show but it is in the files somewhere and I have just to figure out how to make it visible on the page.  Probably easier said than done!

I have already started to work on the other aspects of the site and soon will have more pages for you to enjoy as well as opinion , fun links etc.  In a week from now you’ll hardly recognised the site at all.  As time goes on I will be introducing more features for your enjoyment, including your own pages which you can set up exactly how you like.

Gotta get back to work now.  Later!

Struggling on!

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

Still here and still struggling!  Story of my .  I have been working hard to try to customise the blog so that I can use my own graphics and buttons but this is not proving easy.  As I mentioned in my eBay blog, I think programmers write everything in Martian!  I’ve been reading through forums and help pages but the language there appears to be some form of

Anyway, I have managed to add the blog to and hopefully some people with start to add it to their .  I’ve added a button to the page so if you are a Technorati member, don’t forget to save this blog to your favorites for easy reference.  I’m going to add a few more buttons soon, when I have figured out how.

The site will soon (I hope) have it’s own custom graphics and features.  I’ll keep working on this between dealing with my 4 kids, husband, pets, shopping, cooking, cleaning, etc, etc, etc….  (yawn!) I’m so damn tired!

Talk to you all later!

I’m here at last!

Friday, July 13th, 2007

I’m here at last!  After two days of researching and serious indecision I have finally found some and which, I hope, will make the business of setting up this website much easier.  I can feel my nerves begin to burn every time I look at the control panel for my web space and try to figure it all out.  I can hardly believe I have successfully managed to creat my first post on the blog within just 2 days.  Maybe it’s a positive omen!

For those of you who have followed me here from my original blog, I want to thank you for your interest and your good wishes.  Maybe the fact that someone is watching my progress will keep me focussed!

I will be updating this blog and the original blog at eBay on a regular basis.  As you visit the site you should notice changes happening here on a daily basis.  Watch my progress (or not) right here, live on the site.

When we’re done here you will be able to sign up and start setting up your own pages.  Until then, let me know what you think of it so far and any suggestions will be gratefully received.

 See ya later!
